ABOUT US
Founded by a passionate group of youth volunteers, Team SafeSwim started with students from NIST International School in 2018. We have since expanded to include volunteers from more than 15 schools across Thailand and internationally. Our mission is to empower Thai children and youth with essential water survival skills and train them to assist others during water emergencies.
Every life can be saved with the right knowledge and skills.
With more than 80 members, we are supported by expert coaches from the Swimming Association of Thailand who help design and oversee our training programs to ensure they are safe and meet high standards. Our initiatives focus on teaching underprivileged children, particularly in provinces with high drowning rates, giving them essential life skills to protect themselves in water emergencies.
In 2021, SafeSwim expanded our programs to reach children with hearing impairments by producing educational videos with Thai subtitles and sign language. These videos serve as theoretical learning materials before practical training in the pool. We began this initiative in partnership with Thung Mahamek School for the Deaf, later extending to Setstasatian School, and continue to expand to additional schools. There are more than 1,000 young people who have already received training.
Team SafeSwim has also taken part in World Drowning Prevention Day events hosted by the Ministry of Public Health in 2020 and 2022, representing youth voices in the vital campaign to reduce drowning deaths—the number one cause of child mortality in Thailand.
Drowning prevention is a key public health priority in Thailand. The Ministry of Public Health, in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), has been driving measures to reduce drowning deaths, including promoting swimming and survival skills for all children, encouraging life jacket use during water activities, and raising community awareness to help Thailand reduce these losses and move toward a safer society.
That's why we're committed to ensuring every child, regardless of their circumstances,
has the opportunity to learn essential life skills to help themselves and others.
OUR VISION
To provide every child and youth in Thailand with the opportunity to learn water survival skills and help others, creating a water-safe society.
To build a network of youth volunteers ready to share knowledge and serve their communities.
To raise community awareness about drowning prevention.
To contribute to reducing drowning deaths, supporting the collaboration between the Ministry of Public Health and the World Health Organization (WHO), as drowning remains the leading cause of death among Thai children.
